 As a Western concept album, 'THE REVENGE OF BUFFALO MAC' takes the listener across the burgeoning Western United States through twelve new Kubes tunes. If you've heard our songs "MOGOLLON", "T.B.O.A.", or "TREES AND PUEBLOS" performed live, then you've had a taste of the imagery and songwriting style of this new album. The record features some of our most advanced production, using a combination of Pro Tools and Logic Pro to achieve our desired sound through home recording. Every member of the group is performing at his best on this album, and it features songwriting contributions from all four Kubes.

The West’s frontier is fading and permanent settlements everywhere are inevitable. The war is three years away, with tensions heating up surrounding the Compromise of 1850 and the Kansas-Nebraska Act. Fervor between the burgeoning states’ identity and the federal government is seemingly inescapable. Still, life goes on for many homesteaders, trying to provide for their family through farming and livestock.

Buffalo Mac is a former outlaw turned family man. After his homestead is burned, he embarks on a journey to find the leader of the gang who did it, his former boss. Mac is joined by two companions along the lengthy journey to Oregon. Crazy Horse is a Native American traveler and warrior that befriends Mac through their mutual hatred for the outlaw gang that wronged them. The two meet Wayne, a coal miner and escaped slave, who helps them formulate a plan to assault the outlaw gang's hideout.

--THE ALBUM--

This concept album is two years in the making and the most sprawling and expansive Kubes album to date. Crafted out of an idea born in 2020 with our songs "Lord of the Desert" and "Death Rides A Horse" on our first EP, these tunes were written to tell a concrete story of one man's revenge against a whole gang. 

Through live performances, the hardest tunes were worked significantly to ensure a tight studio recording. Many of the songs were written to express our love for Western films and video games, and we wanted to make our musical equivalent that would stand on its own as a narrative.

--THE SONGS--

Creating Western soundscapes through psychedelic rock was an early goal of ours, but never fully realized. We sought to make a true concept album after 'Discovery One' had a looser space concept feel. This record is the true successor to our early Western songs and our sophomore album, making a culmination of every Kubes style before it.

"LIVE ON ANOTHER DAY" - The album's opening track, fit with a strong lead guitar riff and chorus to establish the character of Buffalo Mac and his family and homestead. The harmony before chaos. 

"TROUBLE ON MY TRAIL" - A saloon song, where Mac first meets his companion Crazy Horse, over a pint of whisky. A strong track with full band interplay on the soloing into the sunset.

"COWBOY PSYCHOSIS" - An intense psychedelic track, with a great Shyan vocal, and rich wash of sound. This tune features a group three-part harmony.

"T.B.O.A." - Longtime live performance staple, this track finally makes its studio debut in an excellent fashion. Thick with instrument layers, this vast song highlights the middle of the journey West.
