The FIFTH annual Jam House Halloween party is a legendary affair.

The Kubes have delivered what is yet their finest performance on the flatbed stage. Returning from last year's rained-out performance from inside, the group, now a four-piece, breaks into a fantastic long set. This one's full of great numbers for a party vibe, thirteen tracks of the quartet live and uncut. The old favorites mesh well with new and exciting tunes making their Halloween debut.

Reviving such classics as "ABANDON SHIP" and "REVELATION" suit the new quartet well. Shyan's keyboards and synth add a new layer to these tunes, and all the new originals. Featuring live staples such as the "MOJA > NINTH" medley and the ethereal "TREES AND PUEBLOS" number, this set is chock full of jams and rocking Kubes covers.

For you jam-heads, check out the "T.B.O.A." and "FUNCTION" improvisational sections that incorporate each band member. The entire "SUPER STRUT" intro is a full-band exercise in improvisatory playing with one another.

New (for The Kubes) cover songs include the Texas Tornados' "(HEY BABY) QUE PASO" and the featured guest number "ALCOHOL". By Travis' request the group does "GHOSTBUSTERS" as well, with a great group interplay.

Returning blues jams "MY BABE" and "ALL YOUR LOVE" are highlighted by the addition of Kube number four, bringing the Bluesbreakers vibe home.

Recorded in 8-track high-definition digital audio and presented in 24-bit resolution on Bandcamp, the album boasts exceptional sound quality. The recording captures every nuance; from the crisp attack of the drums and the soaring guitar solos to the layers of keyboards and the raw, unfiltered vocals. Listeners can feel the ambience of the party and the excitement of the audience, experiencing the performance in all its live, unedited glory.

The Kubes return with a searing new live album, full of great jams and retrospectives of their five years as a group.

"Our 'FLYING SAUCER TOUR' gets its name because like flying saucers, we too have been appearing in small rural towns in front of handfuls of locals, and even we doubt our own existence from time to time..."

All but one of the tracks here were recorded live during the Kubes' travels around the DFW metroplex and have a high energy about them.

--THE ALBUM--

In promotion of the 'IN TO THE OUTSIDE' studio album, the Kubes take their new songs and jams to the Mean Streets of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, heard here in the several tunes taken from the recently released album.

Each show was recorded in high-quality 6-track 24-bit files on Travis' mobile tape recorder. His idea was to capture the feeling of the live Kubes in studio-quality form, to surpass the previous live recording from 2022, 'LIVE AT DR. JECKYLL'S'.

The Kubes return to two of their favorite venues, the aforementioned Dr. Jeckyll's in Pantego and the Howling Mutt Brewery in Denton, along with two new spots, Top Ten Records in Dallas and The Cicada in Fort Worth.

--THE SONGS--

Hand-selected by Travis from four full show recordings, this live record contains the best of the best of what the Kubes have morphed into their sets.

Featuring:

"DOUBLE VISION"

This is the sole studio recording on the album, made to open the first side. Written by Travis in the weeks before the tour started, the trio recorded the song to test the tracking capabilities of Travis' mobile recorder before using it on tour. The almost 8-minute song captures what the Kubes love to do; butter and jam. The song's 'butter' is the jumpy choruses propelled by Travis' searing guitar work. The song's 'jam', of course, is the final three minutes with the Kubes playing off one another in an improvised section that ebbs and flows with natural energy.

"MEAN STREETS"

A highlight from the 'IN TO THE OUTSIDE' album, this tune features some great interplay with the band adapting this previously studio-only track. This recording from the 2/11/23 show is the live debut of the song. Featuring a new staggered ending, the boys skip the fade-out in favor of a one-by-one deconstruction of the groove. This tune especially shows how the trio will take a song never performed together and expand it into something new as it develops on the stage.

"DISCOVERY ONE / OREGON TRAIL BOOGIE"

This boogie number is a live-only medley first introduced back in 2022 at the infamous Farmstock show. Taking the title track from the 2021 space rock LP, Spencer's vocal shines with great energy to kick off the song. Followed by Landry's transition into the boogie, the boys take the old original "Oregon Trail Blues" and revamp it into a more energetic, romping number. This tune features a great solo by Travis, who invites us to travel with him to "Blaine County Port," a fictitious place from 'Grand Theft Auto 5'.

"MAILMAN"

This song is one of the covers on the album, written by the Kubes' friends Braden and Brett Reddell from the Saginaw brother band ASHES (ashesband.com). The trio played it as tribute to the group, who were in attendance at the show and playing immediately after. This is a fun one, as the listener can tell the Kubes are having a great time playing it. This song closed the show on 1/7/23 in Denton, when the Kubes followed another great Fort Worth psych group, STEM AFTERNOON.

"STAR TREK (1966)"

Live performance is a difficult thing to adapt, especially coming from a drum machined-track such as this. The trio takes this simple 'Discovery One' track and expands it into a vast instrumental jam filled with improvisatory licks, wailing solos, and blasting drum beats. This take from the Dr. Jeckyll's show, perfectly encapsulates the mood of this album. The boys are freewheeling, energetic and hungry for sheer jamming.

--IN THE STUDIO--

"WE'RE ALL MISUNDERSTOOD" - This track is the pinnacle of this album's theme and the center of this album's production - all three Kubes playing live together. Showcasing the trio's songwriting skill, this song magnifies the classic Kubes sound of guitar, bass, and drums.

"I'M A MAN" - This Bo Diddley song puts you right in the studio with the Kubes. Recorded all at once, the blues feel here is loose and free with hard rocking from the rhythm section. Listen for the harmonica blowing with the guitar.

"MEAN STREETS" - This track evokes the open road on I-35 Southbound. With a lyric to fit, this one bends into an acidic psych-rocking jam with many layered and distorted instruments.

"SEARCH AND PONDER" - A lowdown style chart with Spencer's lyrics and vocal about self-discovery. Listen for organ and strings during the electric guitar solo bringing the song to its peak.

"GRASSLAND HEAT" - Recorded in Austin with bassist Jackson Bellard, this jump blues number shows the group riding the groove together. Hear Spencer on the harp, playing blues with a feeling.


--LIVE AT THE HOWLING MUTT--

"CALL OF THE VOID - LIVE" - One of three live tracks from The Kubes' set at the Howling Mutt Brewery on 9/24/22. This instrumental jam is underscored by pounding drums and booming bass guitar, while the electric guitar screeches over the top.

"MOJA KNOWS - LIVE" - This Discovery One track has been morphed into a broad live jam where the band trades solos and grooves to the maximum. Travis and Spencer finally put their strings to use and let it all hang down.

"IN TO THE OUTSIDE - LIVE" - Finishing the album where it began almost a year later, this live recording captures the first time this song was ever performed live in front of an audience. Slide guitar and strong vocals from Travis and Spencer make this adaptation worthy of its inclusion on this album.

"BABY WHAT YOU WANT ME TO DO - STUDIO VERSION" - Taken from the same session as "Grassland Heat" and "You're A Part Of Me" at Studio B in Austin, this tune features Jackson Bellard on bass once again and Spencer on the blues harp.

"IN TO THE OUTSIDE - EARLY MIX" - 'Outside' was the first song recorded for the album, prior to the release of Discovery One all the way back in November 2021. Shown here in a more raw state, the song gives an electronic feel to the boogie groove.

"WE'RE ALL MISUNDERSTOOD - TAKE 1 / EXTENDED" - An alternate take of 'Misunderstood' takes the ending jam to more spaced-out height, different than the album version. This track shows the trio play the song during construction in its final state, as it was the second-to-last track recorded for the album.
